Mr. Ingram's
Classroom Standards

It is my hope that all of my students and I can work to create an excellent learning environment.  To accomplish this I expect each student to behave properly, respecting each other’s right to learn and my right to teach.  It is my intention to teach at the highest level of the student’s ability and challenge them to improve themselves.  Each class will develop their own honor code that will cover in-class behavior.  I, however have four classroom standards that I expect my students to abide by.

Respect: Students will respect the teacher’s right to teach by acting mature and behaving properly in the classroom.  Students will respect each other’s right to learn by not interfering with the lesson and encouraging each other to succeed.  The teacher will respect the students right to learn and provide every opportunity for the student to succeed.

Responsible: Students are responsible to come to class prepared to learn and complete all in-class
assignments and all homework assignments.  Students are responsible to have their text book and 3-ring binder in each class. Failure to do so will result in a reduced grade. Students are responsible to keep all school property in good condition.

Prompt: Students will turn in all homework assignments and projects when they are due.  Students will be on time, in their seats and ready to work when the tardy bell rings.

Participate: School is not just reading and writing.  It is also participating in discussions, answering questions, and giving oral presentations.  Homework assignments are designed to prepare the student to participate in class. At the end of each quarter, students will receive a participation grade that will be equal to a test score.

Questions or comments

Students are encouraged to make comments or ask questions. Students are required to raise their hand and I will stop what I am saying to let you speak.  (What you say is important to me).  Silly questions or comments will result in you being ignored.  Speaking out of turn will result in losing your right to speak in class.

Disciplinary Plan

High School students are considered young adults and will be treated as such.  An Honor Code of student and
teacher behavioral expectations will be developed for both the students and teacher to follow.  If, however, a student engages in behavior that is self-destructive or violates the rights of others, the student will be disciplined according to the Woodland Park High School Rules.  Telephone contact will be made with the parents and the student may be assigned after school detention or in severe cases, referred to the Vice-Principal.

Eating & Drinking in the Classroom

You can drink but not eat in classroom.  Water or soda or juice are allowed because drinking does not interfere with the lesson, it keeps you hydrated and no crumbs.  If a student is caught eating or or chewing gum during class, that student loses the right to drink in class.  Any bottles or cans left on the floor or in the desk after class will result in the entire class losing this privilege for the rest of the quarter.  (watch out for each other).

Going to the bathroom:  3 passes per quarter. One student at the time.  You must ask permission.  You must use the hall pass. Students will leave and return quickly.  If you abuse it you will lose it.

Going to see the Nurse: You must ask permission.  You will receive a special pass.  I will check up on you after class.

Going to see the Counselor: Go before school, Go after school or between classes, but not during class.   If you can convince me it is an emergency (it happened once in 1999) I will send you with a special pass.

Cell Phones: Using a Cell Phone is only allowed before 1st Period, during lunch in the lunch room, and after last period.  If I see or hear your Cell Phone, I will confiscate it and turn it in to the office.

Inappropriate dress: If a student wears inappropriate dress, according to school rules, the student will be sent to the office. (No showing the mid-drift, spaghetti straps, sagging and showing underwear)
If you wear a hat or cap during class or passing period, I will confiscate it and turn it in to the office.
