ACCOMPLISHMENT leads to SUCCESS.”

In-Class Assignments: In-class assignments are designed to help the student better understands the lesson and the material covered during the presentation.
- The majority of all in-class assignments will be graded.
- In-class assignments not grades are still subject to being covered in the chapter tests.

Homework: Homework assignments are designed to preview the information that will be covered in the next class.
- Homework will be assigned 3 of 4 classes.
- Homework assignments are brief, taking between 15 – 20 minutes to complete.
- Homework will be graded for completion and correctness.
- Homework missed due to absence must be made up and turned in the next class.
- Homework assignments not completed may be copied in class and receive a minimum grade (50).
- Homework assignment sheets are handed out in advance and may be found on teacher’s web site.

Chapter Tests: Tests will include he material covered since the previous test.
- Tests are a combination of multiple choice and short answer questions.
- An Extra-credit question may be found on most tests.
- If you have an excused absence on the day of the test, be prepared to take the test next class.
- Review sheets are handed out the class before the test.  If you miss that class, it is up to you to see the teacher to get a review shee.

Student Binder: 3Ring binder is required for each student.  In this binder, the following material will be kept.  -  Two dividers

Group Assignments: Cooperative education is a perfect fit for Social Studies.  Students can learn from each other and learn the value of teamwork.
- Members of the group will be selected by the teacher, and will be changed from time to time.
- All members of the group are expected to participate in completing group assignments.
- Members not contributing to the group assignment will receive a reduced grade.
- Groups are expected to work as a team and will be given less time to accomplish their task than that given individual students.

Final Exam: The Mid-term and Final exams count as 15% of the final semester grade.
- These tests will cover the information presented in class.
- If a student keeps all homework assignments and review sheet, they will have all material necessary to do well on these exams.
- An extensive review will be presented prior to these exams.

Weighted Grades: In-class Assignments = 15%     Homework = 35%      Chapter Tests = 50%
Grade Point average:  A = 100% - 89.6,   B = 89.5 – 79.6,    C = 79.5 – 69.6,    D = 69.5 – 59.5

Classroom Standards

It is my hope that all of my students and I can work to create an excellent learning environment.  To accomplish this I expect each student to behave properly, respecting each other’s right to learn and my right to teach.  It is my intention to teach at the highest level of the student’s ability and challenge them to improve themselves.  Each class will develop their own honor code that will cover in-class behavior.  I, however have four classroom standards that I expect my students to abide by.

Respect: Students will respect the teacher’s right to teach by acting mature and behaving properly in the classroom.  Students will respect each other’s right to learn by not interfering with the lesson and encouraging each other to succeed.  The teacher will respect the students right to learn and provide every opportunity for the student to succeed.

Responsible: Students are responsible to come to class prepared to learn and complete all in-class
assignments and all homework assignments.  Students are responsible to have their text book and 3-ring binder in each class. Failure to do so will result in a reduced grade (-10) for that day’s assignments. Students are responsible to keep all school property in good condition.

Prompt: Students will turn in all homework assignments and projects when they are due.  Students will be on time, in their seats and ready to work when the tardy bell rings.

Participate: School is not just reading and writing.  It is also participating in discussions, answering questions, reading aloud, and giving oral presentations.  Homework assignments are designed to prepare the student to participate in class. At the end of each quarter, students will receive a participation grade that will be equitant to a test score.

Disciplinary Plan

High School students are considered young adults and will be treated as such.  An Honor Code of student and
teacher behavioral expectations will be developed for both the students and teacher to follow.  If, however, a student engages in behavior that is self-destructive or violates the rights of others, the student will be disciplined according to the Woodland Park High School Rules.  Telephone contact will be made with the parents and the student may be assigned after school detention or in sever cases referred to the Vice-Principal.

Eating & Drinking in the Classroom

You can drink but not eat in classroom.  Water or soda or juice that comes from the high school vending machine or lunch room.  Drinking doesn’t interfere with the lesson, it keeps you hydrated and no crumbs.  Any bottles or cans left on the floor or in the desk after class will result in the entire class losing this privilege for the rest of the quarter.  (watch out for each other).
Gum and Candy are forbidden.
If I catch a student eating in class, the entire class will lose the right to drink in the classroom for the rest of the quarter. (watch out for each other).

Going to the bathroom: One student at the time.  You must ask permission.  You must use the hall pass.  If you abuse this privilege you will lose it for the rest of the quarter.

Going to see the Nurse: You must ask permission.  You will receive a special pass.  I will check up on you after class.

Going to see the Counselor: Go before school, Go after school or between classes, but not during class.   If you can convince me it is an emergency (it happened once in 1999) I will send you with a special pass.

Cell Phones: Using a Cell Phone is only allowed before 1st Period, during lunch in the lunch room, and after last period.  If I see or hear your Cell Phone, I will confiscate it.
1st Occurrence – I keep it for the rest of class and you pick it up after.
2nd Occurrence – I turn it in to the office and you deal with the Asst. Principal

Questions or comments: Anyone may ask a question or make a comment at any time.  All you have to do is raise your hand and I will stop what I am saying to let you speak.  (What you say is important to me).
Silly questions or comments will result in you being ignored.
